Relaxing Under a Chair at the Cafe

IMG_0338

Today, Mocha joined us at the cafe again and took his usual spot under a chair. Note his collapsible red Ruff Wear Quencher Dog Bowl, which comes in real handy on trips like this. Fortunately, all cafes are nice enough to give you some nice cool water for your dog.

Wrestling with Melvin

More fun with Melvin! And if you don’t want to watch the video, here are ample photos for your viewing enjoyment.

Ouch, got the lip! Mocha’s been known to hang off Melvin’s lip though, while Melvin walks around going, “Is that all you got? Is that all you got??”

A Neo-and-Agent-Smith-Style Collision!

Melvin’s going, “Stay down!”

Mocha’s going, “Okay, but I can still bite ya!”

Rolling in the Dirt

Here’s an oddity. While walking Mocha for his regular bathroom break, I saw him sniff the dirt, dig a little, then promptly roll around in it.

The day wasn’t particularly hot. So he couldn’t have been trying to cool off.

I think he must have sniffed up a particularly delectable scent. One of my childhood dogs would regularly dig up grubs, chew them up, and bath herself in grub guts. Yea, gross. Apparently the exact motivation behind this behavior is not known, though there are many theories.

So far, I’ve only seen Mocha roll around in the dirt (or mud) to cool himself off, or to do whatever it was he wanted to do today. Guess I’d better keep an eye on him to see if he does it again.

Mocha’s Please-Play-with-Me Stare

Whenever Mocha wants to play, he’ll walk up and place his chin on our lap. Then he’ll stare at us with his big, soft, puppy-dog eyes. This is how he won us over when we first saw him at the animal shelter.

Then he’ll back up, sit down politely, and tilt his head. In this shot, he’s lifted an ear for maximum cuteness. Damn that dog and his alluring cuteness!

I’m Tired and It’s Cool in the Shade

Woof woof woof. Woof woof woof. Woof woof rowr?

Woof woof woof. Rooowr. Woof woof woooof.

Translated from Dog:

Daddy took me for a long walk today. It was really hot outside. Doesn’t he know I have a fur coat?

As soon as I spotted some shade and cool leaves to sit in, I rushed over. Ahhhhhh. It’s so nice and cool in the shade.

Off to the Kennel

We have to take off for a trip and can’t bring Mocha along, so we’re putting him in a kennel for a few days. Poor little fellah doesn’t even realize it. Here he is, looking unsuspectingly happy. Awww. We’ll miss ya boy!

Easy Brush Review

We decided to get Mocha an Easy Brush for his dental needs. And along with some Petrodex Enzymatic Toothpaste, he seems to love it.

I apply a bit of toothpaste to the bristles of the Easy Brush, then set it down for him. He’ll generally lick most of the toothpaste off before getting down to business. Then it’s about five minutes of quiet chewing. Easy peasy one-two-threesy.

We’ve been using this for a couple of months now. While Mocha still likes to chew the Brush, he seems to be growing bored of it. I used to give it to him once every other day. Now I’m giving it to him once a week, hopefully to maintain some of the novelty of the Easy Brush.

We examined his teeth yesterday and they looked okay. There’s some tartar buildup in his back teeth despite a regime of Easy Brush, rawhide chews, dental chews, and rope bones. So we may need to brush using a dog toothbrush or finger brush one of these days. Otherwise, the Easy Brush seems to be doing a fair job.

P.S. I was dying to write, “And Mocha says, ‘I chew-chew-chews you, Easy Brush!’, but couldn’t find a good place to put it. So here it is. Heh.

We Play Fetch Now?

I think the little fellah is trying to tell us something.
